Portraits Repainted
songs - musicians
- I'll take it!
A diversified,
mostly Celtic album, with 23 Irish, 2 Scottish, 3 English, 1 French
Canadian, and 2 tunes from the U.S.A. There are reels, jigs, hornpipes,
marches, and eight slow aires.
There
are four tunes with vocals: Lady Mary, a song of unrequited love; The Minstrel
Boy, a musician's lament to war; one verse of the Kerry Dance, a very
popular 19th century Irish song; and the last song on the album is The
Blessing of Love, or The Irish Blessing. Pam Kirby sings lead and Kay
Thomas, harmony, on these songs. They both were regular performers
on the N.P.R. radio show, At Home In the Country.
The instruments
include the fiddle, flute, fife, penny whistle, guitar, bass violin,
tenor banjo, mandolin, and percussion. The hammered dulcimer is the
lead instrument.
